All Natural Body Butter

 

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup shea butter

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil

  • 20 drops lavender essential oil

DIRECTIONS

Combine shea butter and coconut oil in a small pot over medium heat until it melts together. Then, take off the heat and add lavender essential oil. Move the hot mix to another bowl (which can be refrigerated and used with a hand mixer). Refrigerate for 50 mins-60 mins, until the mix is firm, but not hard (the less time you leave it in the fridge, the smoother consistency you will have)…just leave it until the edges solidify. Beat with a hand mixer until soft peaks form. Put into a tightly sealed container, like a mason jar.

POSSIBLE EDITS TO YOUR RECIPE

  • Substitute cocoa butter for shea butter

  • Substitute half the coconut oil for almond oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil

  • Use less oil if you prefer a less oily consistency

  • Add Vitamin E to the mix (you can just break open a couple of liquid capsules into the pot in the beginning)

  • You can use really any of your favorite essential oils instead of lavender (like chamomile, cedarwood, sandalwood, peppermint, or orange)

  • For a softer, more whipped consistency, leave the mix in the fridge for less time, like 50 minutes. When I leave it for a full hour, it turns out more like hardened butter
